Sweet Summertime

Bullying can happen anywhere at anytime, even during the summer. Some think that when school is over that bullying stops. Yes, the bullying stops that happens at school, in the classroom, and in the hallways. The bullying does not stop however online or at summer camps. Here are a few way to prevent it from happening to you or your child, little brother or sister, or friend throughout the summer.
1. Call the Summer Camps and become familiar with their knowledge of bully prevention.
By calling the camp that your child is attending you can ask what their bully prevention techniques and rules are at camp. Have they ever witnessed bullying? What did they do to prevent it? Also, by calling the camp you can let them know if your child is a target of bullying. By that I mean, has your child ever been bullied before? It is okay to let the camp know this just so they can have close eyes on your child.
2. Sit down and have a quick chat with your child.
Even though they are not in school anymore doesn't mean the education on bullying has to stop. Sit down with your child and make sure they know what bullying is and if it has ever happened to them. Make sure they know that being nice to the others around them is very important. Also, let them know what to do if they do start to get bullied while away from home. Let the mentor of their group know, tell the bully to stop, or talk to a camp leader.
3. Be familiar with their social media
Growing up when Facebook was very popular my mom had my Facebook password. I was okay with it, but I never really understood why she wanted it until I got older. Cyber bullying happens more than we think. Also, having a small talk with them about what they do on social media and have they ever been talked or bullied about online. Remind them the positive ways to use social media can make a huge difference.
