It Makes a Difference

I have gone to many classrooms speaking and educating young children on what bullying is and how to prevent it. One class in particular made a mark. I had a young girl say something to me that I was not expecting.  At the end of the class reading, I asked the class if they had any questions for me. One sweet little girl on the right raised her hand. I looked at her for her to ask me her question. She did not have a question instead she told me and the whole class, "I get bullied a lot".

I somewhat did not know how to react to this statement. This was the very first time a young child told this to me. It broke my heart and almost to my breath away.

I quietly asked her if she had spoken with the school councilor, teacher, or someone she trusts. She replied, no.

Right then I knew that we need to push bully prevention and education throughout the schools even more than before. I had no idea how much my story would impact someone to speak up, especially infront of the whole class.

Having just one person for the kids to talk to about situations like this can make a huge difference. Educating children on bullying through the classroom or an activity, can make a difference. Speaking up can make a difference.
